Physical Education
After the visit of Olympian James Dasaolu back in July, our Sports Leaders came up with the idea of a new trophy to commemorate James' visit and picked a suitably Olympic themed trophy for our four teams to compete for each year. They also decided that the trophy should be named 'The Dasaolu Trophy.'
Additionally, to stop Sports Day being a stand alone event at the end of the year, we are introducing Level 1 competitions throughout the school during PE. At the end of a games-based unit of work, children will partake in a low-stakes intra-school competition within their classes, participating in their Sports Day teams (Teams Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). This also ties in with National Curriculum requirements which state children should engage in competitive sports and activities and be able to do so in a range of increasingly challenging situations. Scores, results and points will be collated across the year and will be added to the points collected on Sports Day to find who will lift the Dasaolu Trophy!
To help create a team dynamic for the children, we've created a badge for each team; these can be seen by flicking through the photos attached.
Competition schedules, results and current standings will be posted on our new PE board which will be hung on the playground.
This promises to be an exciting new initiative for the children and one that we hope ensures a lasting legacy from James' visit.- September 2024
Hollyhock had a great day at Lilleshall National Sports Centre. We were lucky enough to train alongside Olympian Gymnasts- Bronze medallist Alice Kinsella and World Champion Joe Fraser and others from the British Team. They spent some of their training time informing the children of the experience at Tokyo and their plans for future events.- March 2022
